The First Step
Once you have made your decision to become a patient of MABNR, you will be guided through a comprehensive step by step process which we have outlined for patients in an attempt to help clarify many questions regarding procedure, intervention, and even cost. It is our greatest pleasure to serve, and the honor you bestow upon us by placing your healthcare needs in our hands is always cherished. Toward this end, we seek to make your treatment and experience at MABNR one of trust, sincerity, transparency and contentment.
After contacting our office you will be directed to our website (or emailed if necessary) to initiate the intake procedure. There you will be directed to download and return the necessary documents in order to register as a patient, and to allow for a comprehensive medical history.
Upon receipt of these documents, you will be contacted by our staff to schedule your next two appointments toward the new patient examination (see below). The first appointment will consist of a baseline functional capabilities examination with our Occupational Therapist, and subsequent diagnostics. Most diagnostic tests will consist of videonystagmography (VNG), postural stability/posturography (CAPS), saccadometry, cognitive testing, and other potential considerations as deemed necessary by Dr. Lane or Dr. Jackson. The second appointment will consist of a review of the patient history and intake forms, neurological examination, report of findings, formulation of a probability for clinical therapeutic intervention, and the generation of a treatment plan toward this end.
After completion of the preliminary paperwork, and/or new patient examination, additional forms may be requested by the doctors to more definitively assist with your condition. Should this be deemed necessary, you will be directed back to the website to download and complete the prescribed specialty forms.
What We Provide
At MABNR we pride ourselves of the best possible management of your condition. As such, the following considerations are paramount toward your recovery:
Consultation with additional specialists may be provided wherever indicated. We are a small part of your health care team, and take pride in working with all other health care providers toward the betterment of your condition.
Recommendations for care, and an establishment of a probability paradigm for clinical intervention, with subsequent acceptance by you - the patient.
If accepted, a care management plan which is to be mutually agreed upon and instituted. A somewhat prompt initiation of the therapeutic intervention is normally provided as soon as possible after the completion of the new patient criteria, with additional care in the previously accepted care management plan.
Regular progress is tracked steadily during the course of care to allow for the highest potential of exceptional results.
In the introductory phase of treatment, we are attempting to stabilize signs and symptoms. The frequency and intensity of these treatments will be established by a consultation with the doctor. It is not uncommon that extended treatment requires four to five consecutive days of doctor visits, so individuals coming from out of town may want to plan for that possibility.
Appointments generally include the following:
- Review of all clinical records including but not limited to medical and specialty intervention, labs, imaging, and other pertinent records.
- A thorough clinical interview and case history.
- The possibility of additional laboratory and/or testing may be requested. Wherever indicated, additional evaluation and diagnostics using specific functional neurology equipment and devices.
- A summary and presentation of diagnostic findings.
Patient Responsibility
Dr. Lane and Dr. Jackson conduct a complete and thorough diagnostic examination of neurological health and functionality which may be contributing to your symptoms or condition. The doctors then create a robust and dynamic treatment plan based on the results of that information.
Although much of the treatment plan involves in-office rehabilitation, a great percentage of therapeutic intervention will be the responsibility of the patient. A home-based therapeutic intervention will be formulated and provided to maximize patient recovery. You will be given exercises to perform at home, often several times a day. Often, it may be necessary to address other considerations as well. For instance, you may be asked to make changes to your diet – often dramatic changes – to support your recovery. The use of supplements to dampen inflammation or improve brain and adrenal function or to restore the digestive tract may also be necessary. Although voluntary, compliance with these recommendations is urged to help ensure the maximum benefit for your recovery.
Showing up to the appointments without compliance to the care recommendations, a failure of adherence to the treatment plan itself, or even a lack of personal effort is likely not enough to create permanent change/plasticity. The majority of work between visits must be completed according to the prescribed recommendations.
